Preparing for July 13, 2008
As I was working on this bulletin, my computer began behaving strangely. I had to reinstall some of the software. Someone buys a new appliance and soon has to call the repairman. Someone else purchases a new automobile and soon has to return it for warranty-covered repairs. At times it seems that nothing is dependable. Nothing works the way we were told it would work. What a difference there is between man-made items and God’s Word. God’s Word always works. Read Isaiah 55:10–11, think about God’s promise, and then consider the following:
  1. For what purpose does God send rain and snow upon the earth? v. 10

  2. At times, snow and freezing rain have a destructive effect. Does this still serve God’s purposes? How?

  3. During times of drought we pray for rain. During floods, we pray for an end to the daily storms that cause the flooding. Both drought and floods destroy crops. How can they serve God’s purposes?

  4. Read Hebrews 1:3. Since Jesus upholds and governs the universe and all that happens in it, can we ever correctly say that the weather or the climate is out-of-control?

  5. What insight do we gain from Isaiah 55:8–9?

  6. The rain and the snow always, always accomplish the purposes for which God sends them. That is God’s promise and solemn declaration. Because that it true, what is true about God’s Word? v. 11

  7. Missionaries who work in India report having to work for several decades before one of the people to whom they have been witnessing confesses personal faith in Christ Jesus. What encouragement do such missionaries receive from verse 11?

  8. You may be praying for someone to receive God’s gift of saving faith in Christ Jesus. What encouragement do you receive for your prayers and witness from verse 11?

  9. Does verse 11 mean that everyone who hears the Good News about Jesus will believe in Him?

May God the Holy Spirit deepen your understanding of His Word and God's grace!
